Bike of the Week: Hipeak Elias

This week’s ebike of the week is from Hipeak, and it’s the Hipeak Elias, a 750-watt, folding, fat-tire ebike with a clean look, good power, and nice range for the money. The Elias also has a twin brother, called the Bona. The only difference is frame style. So, the electrical specs are exactly the same.

Quick Notes

The Hipeak Elias is one of many folding fat-tire ebikes available on the market, but it stands out in a few ways. Probably the one that most people notice right away are the attractive color options. That might seem a silly thing to consider, but it’s nice to have a bike that you think looks good, and stands out from the rest.

More importantly, the Elias is a comfortable folding bike thanks to the 4-inch wide fat tires and front suspension. This allows riders to comfortably ride on dirt and gravel, or even bumpy city streets, without jarring bumps to the wrist, hands, and shoulders. A suspension seat post could also be added for even more comfort.

The 750-watt rear hub motor with 65 Nm of torque is a good hill climber with plenty of power for most to reach Class 3 speeds, if you desire.

The smart display offers 7-levels of pedal assist, which is more than what many other ebikes in its class offers. With 7 levels of assist, riders are more likely to find that “sweet spot” for comfortable pedaling and speed.

The Elias and Bona are equipped with a 12-magnet cadence sensor, which doesn’t offer as smooth of power delivery as a torque sensor, such as you would find on the Aventon Sinch.2 folding ebike. Cadence sensors are a good choice though for those with knee sensitivity or other health issues.

If you’re looking for a super approachable ebike that eases into the power a little more, you might want to also consider the RadExpand 5. It’s one of the best ebikes for new riders, in my opinion.

But, if you want Class 3 speeds, with good range, at an affordable price, the Elias and Bona are two good ones to consider.

I appreciate that Hipeak also has replacement batteries in stock, for a reasonable price, at least at the time I’m writing this. There are also some other nifty accessories to check out, such as the bar end mirrors, and folding front basket.

Hipeak offers a 1-year limited warranty that is transferrable.
