A Mid-Drive Carbon Fiber Ebike for Less than 2K? Meet the Triton Aphrodite

I’ve been doing a lot of research and choosing which ebikes I want to review in 2022. One thing I’ve noticed, as you probably have as well, ebikes have gotten much more expensive, so I’m even more picky. Inflation is affecting everything, and ebikes are not immune, but there are still some potentially good deals out there. One such deal is from Triton Electric Bikes, based out of Austin, Texas, with their bike called the Aphrodite.

For $1850 you get a 17″ carbon fiber frame, 250-watt (350-watt peak) mid-drive motor, 36-volt 11.6Ah battery, Tektro hydraulic disc brakes, a Shimano Deore 10-speed transmission (11-32T cassette), and all weighing in at just 44 lbs. That’s light for an ebike! Their Iris model is even lighter at 42 lbs with a slightly larger frame, but with slightly smaller battery capacity. Both look to be compelling options.

Below is a video of the Triton Iris. I couldn’t find anything for the Aphrodite.

Triton also offers full-suspension carbon fiber mountain ebikes, but are currently out of the stock. You can even find electric motorcycles and mopeds in their lineup, but I’m most interested in the Aphrodite since it’s such a great price for what you’re getting.

The Aphrodite only comes in one frame size and one color, which I’m sure helps hold down the cost. Something else that keeps the cost down is that it has a cadence sensor instead of the usual torque found on most mid-drives. If you want a torque sensor, you’ll have to take a look at their $2500 Hades model, which also comes with an upgraded front suspension and wider tires.

Hmmm…decisions, decisions. All of these models intrigue me and are on my short list.
