I have to say that I have been enjoying my Ness Icon electric bike and I now actually look forward to riding along the scenic bike path near my neighborhood. Before, on my human-only-powered bike I pretty much dreaded the experience and opted to walk instead.
Those hills. That long distance. Those hills. That feeling of possibly needing to call someone with a pickup truck to haul me and my bike back home because my middle-aged body pooped out. And… did I mention those hills?
Before you start thinking I’m being lazy, I do still ride to get a nice workout. Most electric bikes have pedal assist options, with the lowest one just helping you out a bit with its’ motor but you’re still doing most of the work. Then of course, once in a while I go retro and pedal without any assistance at all.
Then there are those times that I go all out and use the throttle and ride it like a Harley-Davidson. Albeit, a slightly under-powered version but on a folding bike with 20-inch wheels I feel like I’m going 80 mph when I’m actually going 20.
It’s just so nice to be able to ride longer, enjoy the scenery, still get a nice workout, and not feel like I’m going to die somewhere along that trail with only the company of squirrels and mosquitoes.
The only thing that bothers me about e-bikes is that I wish I had heard about them so much sooner. I just wish I lived in a town that had bike-friendly commuting so I can take it more places.
And so far it’s living up to its’ claim of a 30-mile range with pedal assist. Look for the full review in another couple weeks. I want to put plenty of miles on it to give it a proper review.
